Raising Awareness about Colorectal Cancer and the Importance of early Screening

In 2025 more than 150,000 US citizens were affected by colorectal cancer.  50,000 of those succumbed to the disease.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is ranked the number two cancer killer.  Earlier detection could change this.

Screening Saves Lives

Early screening is crucial as many cases are currently diagnosed at later stages when survival rates are much lower.

Stage 1 cancer survival rate is in the 90-95% range whereas, Stage 4 survival rate reduces to just 14-22%.

From the age of 45 screening is usually covered under the average healthcare plan but there is a concerning trend in cases and deaths among younger adults.  Isn’t it worth the peace of mind of regular screening no matter what age you are?

Colonoscopy is considered the gold standard in CRC screening but reality the best test is the one that will actually be undertaken.  Not everyone is inclined or able to undertake a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.  Maybe the healthcare provider won’t order a test due to the latest screening age limit?   There are alternatives.

A Fecal Occult Blood (iFOB) test is an inexpensive yet highly sensitive test that checks blood in stool samples, which can be an indication of  lower gastro intestinal disorders such as cancer.  It is available online or at local stores.  The test is simple to use and provides results in just 10 minutes.

Received a positive result with iFOB?  Please make sure you follow up with your primary care provider.
